Leap of Faith – Stephen Paul Fulton

onlinepaulweb.jpg

Stephen Paul Fulton is a local practicing artist. He graduated from Ontario College of Art and Design in 2006 and he currently works in the culture industry. His work is a mixed media process combining collage and paint. Fulton juxtaposes sinister imagery and threatening skies with moments of beauty found only through nature and community. His subject matter draws upon social conventions and hierarchical paradigms such as inequality, waste/over-consumption and social convention. His technique is innovative in a thought provoking way.

This contemporary artist has a conscious soul, one that does not forsake the realities of today’s world in his art. He is very much aware of the issues that we deal with in society and the global village at large.

Painterly, lush, tonally harmonic and thoughtful, witty and intelligently brought together, Fulton’s pieces are an aesthetic source of delight.

Creative Collage Workshop with Stephen Paul Fulton

This workshop is a two part series led by Stephen Paul Fulton, local contemporary artist working with mixed media. It incorporates the techniques of collage and oil painting on panel. This workshop is intended for beginners and experienced painters. Have fun with new and traditional materials and explore your creative force. You will have the opportunity to create your own art piece (some materials provided), and take home a handful of inspirational information.

April 11th – 1-4pm: Workshop in Acrylic Mixed Media: Collage

April 18th – 1-4pm: Oil Painting

Both Workshops $80 (Deadline April 6th, 2010)

Special Price $70 (Before or on March 26th, 2010)

Part 1 – Workshop in Acrylic Mixed Media: Collage

In this mixed media workshop participants will learn valuable techniques and tricks to help turn out a better looking piece of art and extend its longevity. Some of the processes learned will enable the student to evaluate different paper types, how to adhere them to almost any surface, the difference between working on board and canvas and how to choose your subject matter.

This guided workshop will help to open up new possibilities when working with found images and objects. Learn the fundamentals behind mixed media and master the use of several materials on the same working surface.

Part 2 – Workshop in Oil Painting

One of the most hallowed traditional painting methods is Oil painting. As beautiful as it is difficult to execute, there are techniques and tricks that have been employed for hundreds of years to yield masterful results. Its strengths lay in its ability to move instantly from opaque to transparent, thin to thick and back again. In this three-hour workshop you will learn how to take the frustration, danger and guess work out of painting with Oils. Learn proper, stress free brush and palette clean up. Discover the hidden world of Pigment types and their properties, good and bad.

Amor Fati by Zara

April 3rd – May 2nd, 2009

Opening Reception – Friday, April 3rd, 7 – 11 pm

Zara Diniz was born in Toronto, Ontario and is an artist recognized for her work as a painter and muralist. As a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, she has worked on commissions for clients and charities and is now an art educator.

As a visual artist, she delves in the simplicity of painting and the expressive nature of its creation. She creates paintings that capture the medium’s material stages while still depicting people and objects in their utmost familiarity. This unique synthesis of high realism and expressive painting marks her distinctive surrealist style.

Amor Fati

“For the birth of life is a love that accepts death…and dreams of forgiving breath” Zara

Amor Fati is a narrative that retraces a spiritual journey where one falls back into the world and becomes fragile again. That is, where novel moments – revealing a passion for life, are consumed by a downward spiral into darkness, and carried forward – bringing consciousness to spiritual light.

If “Argumentum ex Silentio” symbolizes that enlightened moment where the memory of the heart is visible; then “Mutatio” and “A Fortorio” emphasizes that pivotal moment when the empty void in the heart attracts one to the unknown. Revealing that moment of union and connection through love; “Credere”, then depicts our protagonist’s encounter with another.

The work moves toward a state where woman finds man – and where, together, they change with every form of passage, evolving within processes of consciousness and coming to an understanding of how humanity experiences the world through the human heart.

Busker Fest in Port Credit

Buskers are gutsy street performers. Theatre in the street. Comedians, contortionists, magicians and mimes, sword-swallowers and human statures. Jugglers, escape artists and acrobats. Each performer vying to out perform the last, for a toss of a coin in the hat.
With over 20 professional Buskers, two staging areas and lots of “surprise fly pitches” throughout Port Credit – not to mention a huge Grand Finale Fire Show – this years Busker Fest is going to be incredible!

Expect to experience side-splitting comedy, eye-popping acrobatics and mind-bending daredevil stunts!

Come by the gallery on the 16th through the 17th to witness a drawing come to life on the gallery window! Artist Claudio Ghirardo will be composing a drawing inspired by the modern lifestyle, interpreting the many styles of visual art with the use of “the house”. The event will be documented.
